The Madison County Sheriff's Office is investigating a pair of suspicious fires in rural Troy that caused $300,000 in damage to privately owned construction equipment.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office and the Troy Fire Department responded about 1:20 a.m. Sunday to the intersection of Lebanon Road and South Liberty Road in Troy. A passing motorist reported two pieces of heavy construction equipment on fire.
Upon arrival at the scene, emergency personnel found the interior cabs of a back hoe and excavator engulfed in flames, according to police.
The Troy Fire Department extinguished both fires without incident. The fires caused substantial damage to both pieces of equipment, which are owned by a private construction company contracted by Madison County to make improvements on Lebanon Road. Police said the equipment damaged has a combined value in excess of $300,000.
