Sergei Bobrovsky turned aside 24 Dallas shots, including 11 in the third period, to preserve the Blue Jackets' first win since opening night. Prospal broke a 1-1 tie at the 1:22 mark, beating Kari Lehtonen from a place on the ice where goals aren't usually prevalent. The veteran forward stood on the icing line to the goalie's left and simply whipped a shot that managed to trickle behind Lehtonen. Columbus won despite going 0-for-7 on the power play, including a 5-on-3 for a full two minutes in the second period. Lehtonen made 25 saves for the Stars, who have played six consecutive one-goal games to begin the season, losing the last three.

Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - In just his seventh NHL contest, Chad Johnson saved 21 shots to notch his first career shutout in his Coyotes debut, as Phoenix pounded the Nashville Predators, 4-0, on Monday at Jobing.com Arena. Johnson was recalled from the Portland Pirates of the AHL last week after starting goaltender Mike Smith sustained a lower-body injury in the first period of Wednesday's win against the Blue Jackets. The 26-year-old Johnson's only other victory came on Jan. 31, 2010 against the Colorado Avalanche as a member of the New York Rangers. Keith Yandle registered a goal and two assists, while Lauri Korpikoski, Nick Johnson and Antoine Vermette each scored once for the Coyotes, who snapped a two-game skid. Pekka Rinne was charged for all four goals on 25 shots in the setback, Nashville's third in a row.

Devan Dubnyk stopped 37 Colorado shots, including a whopping 23 in the third period. PA Parenteau scored the lone goal for the Avalanche, who got 23 saves from Semyon Varlamov. Colorado has been outscored 12-3 in dropping all three road games this season. Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Jeff Carter's third-round shootout goal lifted the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Monday in a rematch of a 2012 playoff series at Staples Center. After the first four shooters missed, Carter switched to his backhand and lifted a shot high over a sprawling Roberto Luongo. Zack Kassian had a chance to send the shootout to a fourth round, but his backhand attempt missed the net and the Kings escaped with the victory. Carter added a power-play tally in regulation, while Slava Voynov scored the game-tying goal with 44 seconds left in the third to send the game to an extra session. Jonathan Quick recorded 21 saves for the Kings, who have two straight since opening the season with three consecutive setbacks. Kassian and Alexandre Burrows each scored once to stake Vancouver to an early 2-0 lead, but the Canucks were unable to hold on as they lost for the second consecutive night. Luongo allowed two goals on 28 shots for the Canucks, who entered last year's postseason as the top seed before being bounced in the first round by the eventual champion Kings in five games.
