A fire early Sunday knocked out a transformer that supplied power to the Monroe County YMCA.
Power has not yet been restored and the YMCA remains closed.
A representative of the YMCA could not be reached for comment about when the center is expected to reopen.
Ameren Illinois spokeswoman Stacey Shangraw said Ameren was notified at 5:30 Sunday of a fire at the transformer. A crew was dispatched and replaced the transformer the same day.
Ameren was called back to assist the YMCA electrician on Monday. Shangraw said power cannot be restored until it is safe and the customer grants permission. "At this point, we have done all of the work we can at the site," Shangraw said.
Shangraw said the fire did not originate in the transformer. It is not clear what caused the fire.
Shangraw is not sure why power is not yet restored.
A representative of the YMCA could not be reached for comment. The Monroe County YMCA Facebook page indicates that underground work is being performed to fix the root cause of the issue.
