Oscar Taveras ranks third on mlb.com prospect list

Posted on January 30, 2013

Cardinals OF Oscar Taveras has been named the third-best prospect in baseball, according to mlb.com.

He trails only Rangers shortstop Jurickson Profar and Orioles pitcher Dylan Bundy on the list.

Overall, the Redbirds have four prospects in MLB's top 50 future players with pitchers Shelby Miller ranked 25th, Carlos Martinez coming in at 33rd and Trevor Rosenthal ranked 43rd.

Cardinals minor league director John Vuch said he projects Taveras to start the 2013 season at Class AAA Memphis where he will not only try to fine tune his game -- especially in the defense and baserunning areas -- but also learn how to handle the pressures of being a big leaguer.
