Belleville blotter: Traffic stop turns ugly when female driver flips off cop

Published: January 31, 2013

— The following report appeared in the most recently released crime blotter by the Belleville Police Department:

8:13 a.m. TRAFFIC STOP-FLEEING AND ELUDING - 9800 block of Olympia Street. An officer attempted to stop a 2001 GMC Yukon for traffic violations and misdemeanor warrants out of multiple jurisdictions. The driver, a 28-year-old female, was identified by the officer. The driver rolled her window down to speak to the officer. However when she was advised she was under arrest, she flipped off the officer with her middle finger, rolled up her window and fled into East St. Louis. The officer terminated the stop due to the fact the suspect had been identified and had misdemeanor charges.

Readers are reminded that an arrest or charge does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination. For more police blotter news, read tomorrow's print edition of the Belleville News-Democrat and return to bnd.com.
