OK, what if we made guns illegal? What makes the people who want to ban guns think that would work? Oh, I know it has worked for making and creating drugs like meth, cocaine and all of those other illegal substances. Rape and murder are illegal but they still happen.

Why take away the legal right to own a firearm? Because if you haven't noticed, the criminals don't care if they are breaking the laws. So let's make the citizens who are law-abiding and get their guns legally and make everyone targets because you now want to make them helpless.
