EAST ST. LOUIS — A veteran firefighter with the East St. Louis Fire Department was arrested Thursday after he choked and hit a woman, police said.
East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Floore confirmed the arrest. The firefighter is not being identified pending charges.
Police were dispatched to the 500 block of Gray Boulevard to investigate a disturbance. Upon arrival the officers met with a woman who told them "her boyfriend came home intoxicated," Floore said.
The couple argued and he struck her in the face and choked her, Floore said.
The suspect is being held in the City Jail.
