Published: February 1, 2013

— Three men were charged Friday in connection with a burglary and attempted armed robbery.

Duran Robinson, 19, of Shiloh; Donovan Smith, 18, of Washington Park; and Damien Kelly, 18, of Washington Park, each were charged with attempted armed robbery and residential burglary.

Police gave this account of what happened:

A resident on North 31st Street told police that he had returned home Thursday and found the rear door was open. He went inside and found no one inside, but as he exited the house, he was confronted by four people. One of them was carrying a handgun. The homeowner was ordered to the ground but ran away instead.

The victim looked back and observed the four men enter the residence, then come back out a few moments later. The victim chased the subjects but lost sight of them.

Officers responding to the area located a suspicious vehicle leaving the area and conducted a traffic stop. Two of the occupants fled on foot. One of the two returned to the vehicle and the other was apprehended after a foot pursuit. All five occupants of the vehicle were arrested.

Each of the three suspects have bail set at $200,000.
