EAST ST. LOUIS — On the same day that a 32-year-old East St. Louis man was released from prison, he landed back in jail and charged with criminal sexual assault.
LeCourtney Luckett of Division Street was charged with raping a woman who is the mother of his children. He also was charged with home invasion and is being held in the St. Clair County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Detective Sgt. Gilda Johnson said Luckett escaped from the East St. Louis Police Department, but he was captured a short time later by Detective Jerry Simon. Charges against him for the escape could be added to those he already faces.
Johnson said Luckett, on Jan. 25, forced the woman into her residence in the 1200 block of Division where he "committed the act of criminal sexual assault," Johnson said.
Luckett already had an extensive criminal history. According to prison records, he has served time in the Illinois Department of Corrections for aggravated robbery, robbery, illegally discharging a firearm and retail theft over $150.
