An O'Fallon man remained in critical condition Saturday in the intensive care unit of Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis after a work-related accident in Maryville.
Gregory Mehochko, 35, was injured in the accident on Jan. 23.
The federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration is investigating and details of what happened have not been released.
According to reports, Mehochko was injured after an electrical wire fell on his truck.
According to Maryville police officials, he was transported to Anderson Hospital initially, and later airlifted to Barnes-Jewish.
Maryville Police Chief Rich Schardan said officers received an emergency call about 12:54 p.m. and responded to the scene of the accident at the intersection of Illinois 162 and Lakeview Acres Road. Police said a witness was delivering chest compressions at the site of the accident when responders arrived.
"It was Southwestern Electric that responded because it was their power line (that was involved in the accident)," Schardan said. "(The report said) OSHA was immediately contacted and showed up at the scene to investigate."
Matt Burg, business manager for Laborer's Local 670, said he preferred not to comment until conferring with Mehochko's family, but that the family is going through a particularly rough period right now and are concerned about Mehochko's condition.
