What a waste at Whiteside

Published: February 4, 2013

Since the state has been cutting funding to school districts we have been reading about all the problems the local school districts are having in balancing their budgets. But it appears by their actions that the administration of the Whiteside School District is not getting the message.

The principal of the middle school continues to make buying trips up to Galesburg to purchase worthless junk from a distributor of outdated and discontinued merchandise. This practice has been brought to the attention of the board by employees on a number of occasions in the past. The administration and the board has chosen to ignore those concerns.

One of the latest purchases was "bulletproof" plastic wrap for school windows. Are you kidding me?

When is the superintendent going to start doing her job and put an end to this wasteful practice?

The district has spent tens of thousands of dollars on this trash in the past. If the superintendent is unable or unwilling to put an end to this squandering of district funds, it is time for the board to take action and safeguard the educational funds and spend the money on items that have an educational value.

It is time for the board to do its job and put in place policies that prevent this kind of wasteful spending.
