SAUGET — The Gateway Grizzlies and manager Phil Warren continue to build their 2013 roster with the signings of Trey Holmes, Jimmy Brennemann and Will Casey.
"I'm excited to bring in Trey, Jimmy and Will," Warren said. "They are three young players fresh out of college who can help us win games."
Holmes, a 22-year-old infielder, comes to Gateway from Appalachian State University. In his two seasons with ASU, Holmes batted .284 with 12 home runs and 84 RBI in 117 games. The Rockwell, N.C. native, who bats and throws left-handed, played and started in 57 games during his senior season, collecting six home runs with 39 runs batted in.
"Trey is a solid all-around player who enjoyed success in college," Warren commented. "He'll compete for a spot at first base in spring training."
Brennemann, a 23-year-old outfielder, recently wrapped up his collegiate career at Campbell University. In two seasons the West Chester, Ohio, native hit for a .306 average with 37 extra base hits and 49 RBI. He stole 56 bases in 106 games.
"Jimmy is a speedy outfielder that can help us in many different ways," Warren said. "I'm excited to see how he will adjust to the pro game."
Casey, a 24-year-old left-handed pitcher, spent his first three collegiate seasons at South Carolina before playing his final season at Division II Columbus State. Casey went 6-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 14 appearances (13 starts) during the 2012 season.
"Will gives us a left-handed option on our pitching staff," Warren remarked. "He'll come in and compete for a spot on our staff in the spring."
The Grizzlies 2013 home opener is May 21 when they take on the Joliet Slammers in the friendly confines of GCS Ballpark. Season and group tickets are on sale now. For more information call 618-337-3000.
