Keep electoral college as is

Published: February 5, 2013

Our greatest strength as a country is the demographic processes of our government. Many countries have copied us. Now some public officials want to change the way it is. They want to disenfranchise the voters.

The last election proved that the far right tried many ways to win and they failed in the national election. As far back as I can remember, each state's electoral college has voted to elect the president.

Virginia and several other states, all led by Republicans, want to change that process by giving the electoral vote to the area that elects the representative. Under this process President Obama would have lost the election.

While it is not legally wrong, from what I heard, it appears to be morally wrong. They lost the election, after all their devious methods, now they want to change the procedure. In every organization I belonged to, the majority elected the official. A majority is 51 percent and always has been.

How can we trust any politician who will go to great lengths, by changing the rules, just to get his way? Politicians should spend more time in running their governments and less time to help themselves win an election by any means. They would never get my vote.
