A suspect is in custody after he allegedly robbed the Casey's General Store at 3800 Pontoon Road in Pontoon Beach.

According to the Madison County Sheriff's Department, the man walked into the store just after midnight Wednesday, pointed a gun at employees and demanded money. He fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and headed for a nearby neighborhood.

Sheriff's deputies and officers from the Granite City and Pontoon Beach police departments teamed up to search for the suspect and found him in the back yard of a nearby residence a short time later.

Charges could come against the suspect as soon as Wednesday afternoon.
