Busy January for Illinois state troopers -- 1,686 citations issued

Metro-east state troopers issued 1,686 citations, 1,541 written warnings and made 43 criminal arrests during the month of January, according to information released by the Illinois State Police District 11's commander, Captain Brad Parsons.

Speeding accounted for 714 of the citations and 236 tickets were issued for occupant restraint violations.

Troopers investigated 257 traffic crashes with five traffic accident-related deaths. It assisted 599 stranded motorists and conducted 386 commercial vehicle inspections which resulted in 36 of the vehicles being taken off the road for safety violations.

There were 21 arrests made for driving under the influence and 53 other citations issued for alcohol related violations.

District 11, includes Bond, Clinton, Madison, Monroe, and St. Clair counties.
