Madison County State's Attorney to speak about ID theft

Published: February 7, 2013

Madison County State's Attorney Tom Gibbons will speak to members of the Silver Creek Rotary Club Friday about ways to protect yourself from identity theft and what to do if you think that you may be a victim.

The event will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at the Country Pride Restaurant at the TA Travel Center, located at 819 Edwardsville Road in Troy. The event is open to the public.

Gibbons also will speak on the topic of Lock Your Meds, the national campaign that encourages adults to closely monitor prescription and over-the-counter medications to keep them out of the hands of teens and young adults. The Drug Enforcement Administration estimates that more than seven million Americans abuse prescription drugs. Of those abusers older than age of 12, about 70 percent obtain the drugs from friends and family members.

The Silver Creek Rotary Club serves the Madison County communities of Troy, St. Jacob, Marine and Maryville.
