TIF funds need monitoring

Published: February 7, 2013

After reading the BND article involving Belleville's TIF procedures -- or should I say, lack of procedures? -- to monitor businesses receiving funds, one must agree with Ward 7 Alderwoman Lillian Schneider's insistence on checking on TIF loans.

Mayor Mark Eckert complains that it is time-consuming and she should talk to him if she has any questions. First and foremost, the city should have safeguards in place to protect tax funds and monitor business activities. Second, Schneider's request should be welcomed by Eckert but his arrogance clouds his judgment and perhaps he has something to hide. His lack of administrative capabilities has been called into question and rightfully so.

Eckert also stated that her motive was the upcoming election, which is totally laughable.

Eckert has proven time after time that he is self-serving and his style of governing is stagnate and politically motivated.

As a former resident of Belleville in Eckert's ward, I know firsthand of his deceptive actions. He is one not to be trusted.

The residents of Belleville owe thanks to Schneider for her due diligence.
