Implications of Catholic divide

Published: February 7, 2013

The Catholic Church is celebrating this year as the Year of Faith, but considering how Catholics overwhelmingly voted for a pro-choice president, Catholics in America have little to celebrate.

What does this betrayal of faith mean and what devastating impact will this grave indifference to human life have on the church and on society?

Foremost, this recalcitrant bunch of Catholics teaches children that it's morally acceptable to disregard the intrinsic dignity of human life. And this is scandalous because the actions of these Catholics directly reinforce the evil of abortion.

Second, and most grievously, this blatant disobedience to church teaching effectively undermines the church's authority and undercuts its will to do good in the world. A divided Catholic church nullifies any political effort the church can do in regards to eradicating the evil of abortion from society.

But the most disturbing aspect of this Catholic scandal is, apparently, the conscience of these misguided Catholics doesn't seem to bother them. They're willing to put their selfish interests above an innocent unborn child's right to human life. If this isn't the definition of depravity, I don't know what is.

Jesus aggressively cleared the courtyard of money-changers who were desecrating God's holy temple. We need another Jesus-like figure to clear these errant Catholics of their delusion that they're acting in a morally acceptable manner when they support abortion. When Catholics support the evil of abortion, they become like the money-changers who desecrate and profane the name of God.
