FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS — Two men are being held in the St. Clair County Jail for taking part in a home invasion of a house on Peachtree Lane early Sunday morning. During the attack, one of the assailants pointed a handgun at the head of one of the victims, according to a press release issued Thursday night by the Fairview Heights Police Department.
The St. Clair County State's Attorney's Office on Thursday issued warrants charging each suspect with home invasion, a Class X Felony.
Bond was set for $250,000 for each suspects Bryton J. Wilson, 19, of Belleville, and Rossie D. Truss, 20, of Fairview Heights.
Wilson and Truss about 3:30 a.m. Sunday allegedly tried to enter the back door of an apartment on Peachtree Lane occupied by two men.
One of the assailants pointed a handgun at one of the men in the apartment, police said.
The victim grabbed the gun, touching off a struggle during which both suspects allegedly punched the victim repeatedly.
The victim let go of the gun and both suspects fled the residence through the back door, with the victim giving chase. He observed them enter a red car and flee the area, according to police.
After the suspects had fled, the victim was taken by a family member to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, where he was treated and released for minor injuries. His friend who was present when the crime occurred was not injured in the incident.
During the investigation, the victim informed investigators he possibly recognized one of the suspects.
Fairview Heights detectives arrested Wilson at Southwestern Illinois College on Tuesday and arrested Truss the next day at his residence in Fairview Heights, according to police.
