The St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to one-year contract with third baseman David Freese for the 2013 season, avoiding arbitration with the 2011 postseason hero.

Terms were not disclosed.

Freese, 29, a St. Louis native and the MVP in the 2011 World Series and National League Championship Series, hit .293 with 20 home runs and 79 RBIs in 2012.

He holds the record for RBIs in a postseason with 21 in 2011, and hit the game-tying two-run triple and game-winning home run in a memorable Game 6 of the World Series that year.

The Cardinals acquired Freese from San Diego in a trade for Jim Edmonds in December 2007.

He was the last Cardinal player eligible for arbitration this off-season.
