Metro-east squads do well in competition

Metro-east teams swept the top four spots in the medium varsity divison at the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association Championship this past weekend in Springfield.

Columbia, which won their fourth state title in Illinois High School Association's Competitive Cheerleading competition two weeks ago, took first place.

Highland placed second, Mater Dei placed third and Triad placed fourth.

Highland also claimed first place in both the all-girls and coed stunt groups.

Mater Dei was second and Edwardsville was fourth in all-girls stunt groups, while Columbia was second in the coed stunt groups.

In the large varsity division, O'Fallon finished third and Edwardsville finished sixth.

Waterloo won the small junior high divison, while Highland came in second followed by Triad in third and Mater Dei in fourth in the small junior varsity division.
