Firefighters in Godfrey early Tuesday morning battled a house fire in the 8500 block of Lageman Road.

The blaze broke out in a single family residence and severely damaged the house, with flames breaking through the roof.

According to fire department reports, the house was occupied at the time the fire started, but the family was able to escape without any serious injuries.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
