Suspects in Columbia bank robbery nabbed

Published: February 12, 2013

A Missouri couple has been arrested in connection with a string of St. Louis-area bank robberies, possibly including one that happened Feb. 4 in Columbia.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department, Darren Everett, 42, and Mackenzie Leonard, 26 -- who both live at 1133 Matador Drive in Chesterfield -- were each charged with three counts of first-degree robbery and one count of armed criminal action. Their bond was set at $500,000 each.

Police said charges are pending in relation to other robberies in Columbia and Arnold, Mo.

During the Columbia holdup, a suspect who police believe was a man dressed as a woman was caught on surveillance video as he robbed the Commerce Bank at 995 Columbia Center.

The robbery was run quickly and efficiently, taking a total of about 90 seconds, which police believe indicates an experienced robber.
