BOWLING BENEFIT: The 30th annual Cystic Fibrosis Scotch Doubles "Darryl, Susan, Lisa and Mark Elbe Bowl for Breath" will be held at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at Bel-Air Bowling Alley in Belleille. Cost is $30 per couple. There also will be a silent auction. Reservations: Jim and Linda Elbe, 618-473-3710.

CAHOKIA WOODHENGE: Dr. Michael Friedlander will discuss "The Cahokia Woodhenge" as part of this month's meeting of the St. Louis Astronomical Society. During excavations west of Monks Mound near Collinsville in the early 1960s, Warren Wittry discovered traces of wooden posts that had been set out around five large circles. Friedlander, a physics professor at Washington University, will discuss Woodhenge, compare it to Stonehenge and discuss the astronomical knowledge of the area's ancient peoples. The program is at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Room 162 of McDonnell Hall on the Washington University campus. It is free and open to the public.

ABOUT TELESCOPES: The Southwestern Illinois College Astronomy Club will offer a program on space telescopes at 7 p.m. Feb. 21, in Room 1411 of the Main Complex.

INVESTENT CLUB: The Wealth Builders Investment Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. today, following a 5:30 p.m. dinner at the 17th Street Bar and Grill at 1711 W. U.S. Highway 50, O'Fallon. The stock being studied is FactsSet Research Systems. Visitors are welcome to come and learn about personal investing.

"LI'L ABNER" AUDITIONS: Curtain's Up Theater Company will conduct auditions for "Li'l Abner" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Room 2012, Southern Illinois Uuniversity Edwardsville, Katherine Dunham Hall, Edwardsville. The Play will run May 2-5. Those auditioning need to prepare a 1- to 2-minute monologue, 16 to 32 measures of a song (bring your sheet music), and be prepared for a simple dance audition. BABY-SITTING 101: This class, taught by an instructor from St. Louis Children's Hospital, is an introduction to the basics of baby-sitting. Topics include the business of baby-sitting, safety/first aid, child development, fun and games. A workbood and light snack are provided. Cost is $30 per person. ANIMAL VALENTINES: A Valentine's Sweetheart Animal Program will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays at the W.P.E.O. Inc., Wishing Well Ministry, 6105 N. Park Drive, Washington Park. Free teddy bears, bread, drinks, hot dogs are available. Donations needed include money, dog/cat food, teddy bears, stuffed animals, dog houses, money, flea collars. EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS: Maryville Parks and Recreation will present a program on emergency preparedness from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at Maryville Village Hall, 2520 N. Center on Illinois 159 in Maryville. Amanda Yancey will present "Emergency Preparedness -- Your Documents," plus "Selling on Craigslist." It's free and open to public. LIFES SUPPORT: St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese will hold Basic Life Support classes at 6 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 18, March 18 and April 15, in the hospital Heritage Room. AUDITIONS: Take A Bow Showcase will hold auditions for its spring musical, "A Grand Night for Singing," at 6:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday at St. Mary Church, 1706 W. Main St., Belleville. Singers should prepare a 32 measures of a classic musical number. An accompanist will be on hand. Auditions are by appointment: Callin 618-409-0015. Performances of the dinner theater production are April 25, 26 and 28 at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows Banquet Center.

GREEN CONFERENCE: A Gateway Green Industry Conference will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at Gateway Convention Center, 1 Gateway Drive, Collinsville. It offers new ideas in lawn care, landscaping, nursery, garden center, golf course or any other grounds-related industry. Registration for the two days is $100; $80 for one day. Lunch is included. Also, a large trade show featuring many local businesses is free to the public.

RACIAL HARMONY: The Center for Racial Harmony will hold a gathering entitled "Who Are You" from 3 to 5 p.m. Feb. 24, at Grace Church, 5151 N. Illinois St., Fairview Heights. The program includes retired Judge Annette Eckert, Belleville West High School Harambee, Grace Kids Choir and the presentation of Racial Harmony Awards to area students and the Community Service Award.
