When naming new bridge, think beyond Musial

Published: February 13, 2013

Why not name the new bridge Veterans Memorial Bridge? Most people have one or more veterans in their family. The bridge could represent veterans all over the United States, the world.

Stan "The Man" Musial was a World War II veteran. It would include him, too. He was a famous man, lived a good life of 92 years. He received a funeral of royalty. He got more time on radio, television and in the newspapers than President Obama's inauguration.

We have to let the past go and dwell on the present and the future. Probably, a lot of men and women in Illinois and Missouri are worthy of having the new bridge named after them, too.

A TV report stated that Illinois gave $313 million and Missouri only gave $113 million to build the bridge.

The decision on naming the new bridge probably should be in Illinois and Missouri should be included. If named the Veterans Memorial Bridge, that would include all veterans and families -- even the man who lost his life building it. Veterans earned and deserve honor, fame, recognition and royalty, too.
