SWIC basketball fans: Find out how you can help fight cancer

Published: February 14, 2013

Southwestern Illinois College men's basketball coach and thyroid cancer survivor Jay Harrington invites the community to come to the school to enjoy a pair of basketball games -- and help fight cancer at the same time.

Wear teal, pink or blue, the official colors of the battle against thyroid cancer, to show support for the women's and men's basketball squads in their doubleheader against Shawnee Community College starting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Admission to both games is free. But a donation to the V Foundation for Cancer Research is requested.

"As a thyroid cancer survivor, I am encouraging all of our SWIC basketball fans to come out and support a great cause and cheer on our Blue Storm in these critical conference games," Harrington said.

The V Foundation was created by college basketball coach Jim Valvano in 1993. He later died of cancer.
