A stabbing suspect from Swansea led police on a high-speed pursuit Thursday afternoon that ended on Interstate 64 in Clinton County just east of New Baden.
The male suspect fled from police after a woman was stabbed in a home in the 3900 block of North Illinois in Swansea.
"It appears it is a domestic related issue," said Swansea Police Chief Mike Arnold.
Swansea Police were called at 2:43 p.m. They located the suspect on Frank Scott Parkway. The suspect refused to stop for police. Officers from Shiloh Police, New Baden Police and Illinois State Police joined the pursuit until he was stopped by state troopers.
Speeds reportedly reached up to 100 mph.
The suspect was taken into custody around 3 p.m.
The extent of the victim's injuries were not available Thursday afternoon, but she was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The suspect also was injured during the incident and he was taken to a hospital for treatment, Arnold said.
