A Washington Park police officer is under investigation for alleged civil rights violations.
According to court documents, Officer Antwan Stith was accused of arresting a woman with no justification, then shooting her twice with a Taser while she was handcuffed in the back of a police car.
A lawsuit filed by the victim claims that on July 12, 2010, Stith and other officers went to a house to investigate an assault complaint.
"Without provocation or any legal justification, (Stith) arrested and handcuffed" Shannon Tugle, the suit alleged. The officer then "tasered her twice, while she was handcuffed, causing severe physical damage."
According to KMOV-TV, there currently are several open investigations into similar allegations against Stith.
The lawsuit goes on to accuse Stith of lying to cover up what he did by claiming Tugle was resisting.
The suit asked for $50,000, but the sides eventually agreed on a $10,000 settlement.
