Letter writer Brad Rehkemper said I and other liberals blindly follow and obey every word our president spews. Not true. The president and I just happen to share the same views on most issues, with the exception of annihilating foreign leaders in the name of democracy, declaring undying loyalty to Israel and supporting same-sex marriages.
The Sound-off caller and other conservatives who accuse black people of wanting handouts should realize the playing field between blacks and whites is not equal, and has never been. Local unions deny a fair percentage of blacks work, even in black communities. St. Clair County has one black department head and only a handful of black employees, yet, it is the black votes that keep those officeholders in office. And, from its very inception, the local casino, which was placed there to help the poverty rate in East St. Louis and surrounding communities, has hired only a speck of blacks as compared to a multitude of whites.
Unfortunately, the black politicians, religious leaders and civil rights' organizations haven't addressed the problem of blacks getting their fair share of work. During my time as a leader, I truly tried to address those issues, but I just didn't have any help from other leaders.
Hopefully the current black leaders will come together and demand a fair percentage of black employment in all work places. In the meantime, the fat-cat conservatives need to stop calling my people moochers.
