Class 2A boys basketball playoff outlook

Class 2A Central Regional

Seeds: (1) Carlyle (22-7), (2) Central (19-9), (3) Mater Dei (16-12), (4) Wesclin (9-18), (5) Dupo (8-17)

Favorite: Carlyle

Could Surprise: Whoever wins the Central-Mater Dei game

Summary: This regional has a long history of supplying deep playoff trips, including defending state champion Central last season. Factoring in rivalries and multiple meetings between many of the teams each season makes it too close to call, but Carlyle has the No. 1 seed for a reason.

Class 2A Sparta Regional

Seeds: (1) Nashville (21-7), (2) Pinckneyville (19-10), (3) Sparta (20-9), (4) Du Quoin (13-14), (5) Red Bud (4-25)

Favorite: Nashville

Could Surprise: Sparta

Summary: One of the tightest regionals around is full of upset potential and intrigue, not to mention every team here is in the River-to-River Conference's Mississippi Division except Red Bud. Nashville won the conference, but was upset by fifth-place Du Quoin over the weekend while Pinckneyville rocked Sparta by double-digits. Sparta picked up a big recent win over Okawville.
