A fatal car crash occurred about 3 a.m. Sunday after three women took a wrong turn and ended up in Sauget.
The accident happened on Illinois Route 3 at the intersection of Yellow Brick Road, according to Sauget Police Chief Patrick Delaney.
According to officials, three women, two sisters and a friend, were on Laclede's Landing before they left and headed toward their home in Ballwin, Mo. The driver, identified as Brooke Bahmler, 24, meant to get on Interstate 55 heading southbound, but accidentally took the Illinois exit. She traveled across the Poplar Street Bridge and ended up in Sauget.
Bahmler was attempting to make a U-turn at the stop sign on Yellow Brick Road when she turned into the path of an oncoming Jeep. She died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Jeep, Sharon Frison, 34, of St. Louis, was also injured. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Delaney said it appears alcohol did not play a role in the accident. He said Bahmler was the designated driver and did not drink anything.
