Former Alton mayor and police chief Don Sandidge died Sunday morning. He was 75 years old.
Current Alton Mayor Tom Hoechst said he was saddened to learn of Sandidge's death. In an emailed statement, Hoechst described Sandidge as a "kind man who loved Alton and dedicated his life to it." Hoechst and Sandidge had been friends since they met in 1997.
Sandidge is survived by his wife Sheri, two children and three grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending.
