The Illinois Department of Transportation will reduce eastbound Interstate 55/70 to one lane from the I-55/70/64 split to Exchange Avenue in East St. Louis Monday and Tuesday for road work. The lane restriction is necessary to set steel beams over the interstate, according to IDOT officials.
The lane restrictions will be in place from 7 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, weather permitting.
In addition, motorists can also expect intermittent 15-minute road closures while the beams are being lifted over the traffic lanes.
IDOT advises drivers reduce speed and use extreme caution when traveling near or through this work zone. For more information, visit www.stl-traffic.org.
