BELLEVILLE — Police shut down the 900 block of East Main Street on Friday afternoon as they took a pair of felony robbery suspects into custody.
According to Capt. Don Sax, a robbery occurred earlier in the day. He would not release many specifics about the case because he said it was still under investigation and he didn't want to compromise the prosecution. But he said it happened within Belleville city limits and it was a robbery of individuals, not a business. He said he couldn't say specifically where in town the crime took place.
About 1:15 p.m. officers spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the suspects' car and it was pulled over. Officers arrived in force and shut down the street for the safety of motorists and pedestrians.
Sax said the suspects were quickly taken into custody without incident. They have not been identified, nor would Sax say what kind of vehicle that they were driving, because the suspects have not formally been charged. He also would not say if the victim of the robbery had positively identified the people who were arrested.
The road was was reopened after the suspects were apprehended.
