Flyers get by Eagles

The East St. Louis Flyers started slowly but used a 17-5 second quarter advantage to take control as they defeated Civic Memorial 60-38 in the semifinals of the Class 3A Civic Memorial Regional.

Ranked fifth in the final Associated Press Class 3A poll released on Tuesday, East St. Louis led just 15-11 after one quarter before seizing command in the second period.

Darrion Beane and 6-foot-6 senior forward Johnny McCray scored 14 points each for the Flyers (19-7) who will take on Marquette in the title game at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Jakob Lawrence led Civic Memorial (14-15) with 15 points.

Class 4A Granite City Regional

Edwardsville 40, Granite City 25

It was like old times as top-seeded Edwardsville held the host Warriors to just 14 points in three quarters as it ran to an easy 15-point win.

Ranked fifth in the Class 4A state poll, Edwardsville (26-2) led just 15-10 at haftime, but outscored the Warriors 11-4 in the third quarter to lead 26-14.

Tre' Harris led the way for Edwardsville with 14 points wile Garret Covington added 13. Edwardsville will take on the winner of the Alton-Quincy game for the regional title game at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Class 2A Greenville Sectional

Teutopolis 58, Roxana 42

The balanced attack of the Wooden Shoes (24-3) was too much for the Shells to handle at T-Town rolled into the sectional title game.

Derek Smith scored 14 points to lead the Wooden Shoes. Kyle Falbe had 12 and Kyle Prumer and Jared Waldhoff had 10 each as Teutopolis rolled past Roxana in the sectional semifinals.

Roxana (23-8) got 12 points from 6-9 senior Hunter Reine and 10 from Matt Hartnett.
