Convicted sex offender Michael S. Burgund was sentenced Friday in Madison County Court to life in prison.

Burgund was found guilty on five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault on Dec. 10 for sexually abusing two girls, ages 2 and 3, who are family members.

He walked into the Alton Police Department in April 2011 and confessed on video to the crimes but later recanted.

The abuse took place starting in June 2008.
