Business continued as usual Friday after Belleville Police were called to investigate an apparent break-in at Papa Vito's pizza in Belleville.
According to neighbors, the restaurant's alarm went off around 7 a.m. and officers arrived shortly thereafter. The front door of the establishment, located at 318 E. Washington St., was smashed in, onlookers said.
Gerry Geoppo, whose family owns the pizzeria, said thieves made off with some loose change they found at the hostess stand and little else. Geoppo said he is thankful that police were quick to respond to the scene. He said the front door window was replaced soon thereafter.
"There wasn't anything to speak of stolen out of there," Geoppo said. "What was taken didn't have anything in it. It was an empty box. These guys didn't get away with anything except busting a window."
