Live bullet found at Belleville elementary school

Published: March 1, 2013

A student found a .22-caliber live bullet Thursday afternoon in a hallway at Belle Valley School in Belleville, according to school administrators.

Belle Valley School District 119 Superintendent Louis Obernuefemann said no children were in danger, and the incident was fully investigated by district administrators.

"We did a complete locker search and a search of the entire wing," he said. "We also reviewed footage from video cameras to see if we can see anything."

Obernuefemann said no weapon of any kind was found.

Belleville police were at the school Friday investigating the incident. Police took possession of the bullet, Obernuefemann said.

District 119 plans to send a phone notification out to parents Friday afternoon.
