Chalk up another regional championship for the Edwardsville Tigers.

Seniors Garret Covington (15 points), Shawn Roundtree (14) and Tre' Harris (10) all reached double figures Friday as the top-seeded Tigers defeated third-seeded Alton 55-40 in the title game of the Class 4A Granite City Regional.

Edwardsville (27-2) won its 18th regional in 25 years under coach Mike Waldo. Alton finished 13-18 under first-year coach Eric Smith.

The Tigers will play O'Fallon (9-19) in the semifinals of the Pekin Sectional at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Alton High School. The Panthers were surprise winners of the Class 4A O'Fallon Regional as they defeated top-seeded and state-ranked Belleville East on Tuesday and Collinsville on Friday.

Tyrome Parker led the Redbirds with 15 points. Edwardsville defeated Alton for the third time this season.

The Tigers led 11-5 after one quarter, 19-11 at halftime and 32-23 after three quarters before outscoring Alton 23-17 in the fourth quarter.

Senior Drew Curtis added eight points for the Tigers, who were 25-for-27 from the free-throw line.
