Belleville blotter: Good Samaritan follows suspected drunk driver until police arrive

Published: March 6, 2013

The following report appeared in the most recently released crime blotter by the Belleville Police Department:

TUESDAY

7:54 p.m. TRAFFIC ACCIDENT-FELONY REVOKED/D.U.I. - S. 16th Street at Bunsen Avenue. A witness reported an accident in which the driver exited the vehicle and left the scene on foot. The witness followed while advising dispatchers of his location. Responding officers arrested the driver, a 35-year-old male, and transported him to headquarters. The driver appeared to be intoxicated and failed field sobriety tests. The driver was processed and held pending felony charges.

Readers are reminded that an arrest or charge does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination. For more police blotter news, read tomorrow's print edition of the Belleville News-Democrat and return to bnd.com.
