Madison High School senior guard Marquis Borney and Okawville High senior guard-forward Jeremy Weeke both were named first-team all-state players when the Associated Press Class 1A-2A All-State Basketball Team was announced Thursday.

Borney, who averages 19 points and 6.5 rebounds per game with 60 3-pointers, has helped Madison (20-11) to the 1A state finals. The Trojans take on (Lanark) Eastland (30-3) in the semifinals at 12:15 p.m. Friday in Peoria.

Weeke averaged 18.4 points and 7.2 rebounds for the Rockets (24-7), who reached the Valmeyer Regional championship game before losing to Gibault.

Gibault High junior guard Wes Degener and Steeleville senior guard Darin Winkelman each were honorable-mention 1A all-state picks.

The only metro-east players on the Class 2A all-state team were Roxana senior center Hunter Reine, Sparta senior center Aaron Rushing and Nashville freshman forward Royce Newman. All three were honorable-mention selections.
