Four people were seriously injured in a Thursday afternoon car accident in Mascoutah.

At 3:41 p.m. a Pontiac van driven by a 40-year-old woman pulled over on Sixth Street near Fuesser Road to pick up a child, according to Police Chief Bruce Fleshren.

When the van pulled back onto Sixth Street it pulled into the path of a Pontiac G6. The van was struck in the driver's door and both vehicles ended up in the ditch on the east side of the road. A small fire started under the hood of the G-6 but it was quickly extinguished.

The van driver and her 16-year-old daughter were transported to the hospital from the scene with serious injuries that were not believe to be life threatening. Her 12-year-old daughter who was also in the van was not injured.

The G-6 was driven by an 18 year old driver and it had two other male passengers ages 18 and 17. The driver and the front passenger were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
