The names of the two people killed in a head-on collision on Friday in the metro-est were released Saturday.
James C. Gregory, 50, of Alton and Margaret E. Tracy, 81, of Godfrey were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on U.S. 67 south of Godfrey Road in Godfrey, according to a release from Madison County Coroner Stephen Nonn.
Tracy was traveling north when a witness saw her 2002 Toyota Avalon veer into the southbound lanes of the highway. Her vehicle struck Gregory's 2012 Chevrolet Silverado Truck head-on, Nonn said.
Gregory was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Both drivers died from blunt chest trauma.
The Madison County Sheriff's Department is investigating the crash. An autopsy has been performed on Tracy to try and determine what caused her to veer into the other lane, and toxicology tests for drugs and alcohol will be performed on Tracy and Gregory.
Funeral arrangements are pending for Tracy and Gregory.
