Gateway picks up No. 1 draft pick from Washington

Published: March 11, 2013

— The Gateway Grizzlies have traded outfielder/designated hitter Rogelio Noris to the Washington Wild Things for their 2013 first-round draft pick and a player to be named later.

Noris, 24, batted .313 with 18 home runs and 60 RBI in 58 games for the Grizzlies after being acquired in a midseason trade with the Lake Erie Crushers in 2012. He is a .256 career hitter in 454 professional games over the course of six professional seasons.

"This was a tough decision for us because Rogelio did some great things our team down the stretch last season," Grizzlies manager Phil Warren said. "This is a financial move and we are fortunate to be getting some pieces in return. We wish Rogelio the best in Washington."

Easter Egg hunt

The Gateway Grizzlies and the YMCA are happy to announce they've teamed up for the 2013 Easter Egg Hunt at GCS Ballpark.

The Easter Egg Hunt will take place on Saturday, March 30th and it will feature the hunt, a rock climbing wall, zumbatomic, I-dance gaming system and a fit kid's demonstration, among other activities. Gates open at 9 A.M. and hunting begins at 10 A.M.

The Grizzlies and the YMCA will also work together to form a healthier hunt. There will be more prizes and less candy inside the eggs during the hunt, which will help kick off the Grizzlies healthy menu. The new healthy menu will be utilized during the 2013 Grizzlies season at GCS Ballpark.

"The YMCA of Southwest Illinois is very excited to combine our 'fun for all ages' national initiative, Healthy Kids Day with the Gateway Grizzlies Easter Egg Hunt," YMCA director Jeff Saunders commented. "The YMCA fully supports an environment where families can come together, have fun, and get healthy all in the same place. These types of community events truly coincide with the mission and cause of the YMCA."

The Grizzlies healthy menu in 2013 will range from hummus to wraps that could include turkey or chicken. Also, healthy side alternatives will be included for kids, ranging from carrots to healthy potato chips.

"We've been known many years for our great ballpark food," Grizzlies general manager Steve Gomric said. "Now we want to give fans a healthy option without sacrificing quality and taste."
