A Madison county suspect led police on a two-state chase overnight before being involved in a head-on crash in Missouri.
The suspect, whose name has not yet been released pending formal charges, was wanted in relation to a home invasion case. He was spotted by police in Alton and officers chased him across the Clark Bridge into West Alton on the Missouri side of the river.
The man, driving a green Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, turned around and headed back toward Illinois by driving the wrong direction on Highway 67. There he ran head-on into a box truck early Tuesday, according to police reports.
The road was closed for several hours because of the accident, which sent the suspect to the hospital. Police said the man had hip and leg injures that are not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the other truck was not injured in the collision.
