Progress in Congress, please

Published: March 13, 2013

Since watching Congress for the last four years, I wonder if they will ever get along again. We are a united people by law, and we should be united for purpose. Americans have been the most giving people on earth, but Congress is making a mockery of our nation by deliberately not trying to get along. It has to stop.

Some people say compromise is out of the question on major issues. Since when do some have to have it their way always? I heard a congressman say, "It is our way or the highway." That is a threat, plain and simple. With that attitude, nothing will be accomplished in the present Congress. Their rating is at an all-time low.

Our country is more polarized now than since the Civil War. Playing politics while we are in a very long Depression is wrong and the people who are perpetuating the lack of cooperation should be voted out of office as soon as possible.

The word "progressive" has been used like a sickness. I would like to see a little progress by our elected officials. When I was young the teacher had me stay after school if I did not complete my work. Congress should have to stay in Washington until they do their work. That way they will earn their pay. If not, cut their pay on a percentile basis.

Compromising is working together.
