The Valmeyer Fire Protection District was awarded $54,135 in grant money to help support and improve the department's ability to respond to fires and other emergencies.
The grant was from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, part of the Department of Homeland Security. It was part of more than $750,000 grants awarded to Illinois fire departments and municipalities, announced U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill.
