The following report appeared in the most recently released crime blotter by the Belleville Police Department:
WEDNESDAY
7:56 p.m. 9-1-1 CALLS FROM A CHILD - 1000 block of East A Street. Dispatchers began receiving numerous 9-1-1 calls from a subject claiming to be an injured 6-year-old juvenile female home alone. The subject stated she had fallen down some stairs, couldn't move, was bleeding from her leg, in pain and couldn't signal officers. Officers and detectives responded to the area of the alleged injury and began door-to-door canvassing. Additional calls from the alleged 6-year-old coupled with extensive coordination between the department and cellular provider led officers to conclude the calls were a hoax. The caller terminated the calls at about 10 p.m.
Readers are reminded that an arrest or charge does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination. For more police blotter news, read tomorrow's print edition of the Belleville News-Democrat and return to bnd.com.
