An East St. Louis man was arrested and charged in connection with shots fired Monday.

Demario Lewis, 28, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in connection with the incident that occurred around 12:40 p.m. Monday near Division Street in East St. Louis. His bail was set at $30,000, and he has posted bond.

The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department Street Crimes Unit responded to the call of shots fired by East St. Louis dispatch. While patrolling St. Clair Avenue, a deputy spotted the white Chrysler 300 described by the dispatch and conducted a traffic stop in the 1700 block of North 23rd Street. While officers spoke with the driver, Lewis, they learned a loaded firearm was stored in the center console of the vehicle.

Lewis and a passenger were secured by officers and a search of the car found a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun and a small amount of marijuana.
