A bus driver found a .22-caliber bullet on their bus Thursday morning, according to Belle Valley School District 119 officials.
Superintendent Louis Obernuefemann said the bus was thoroughly searched and the students who rode the bus were questioned and their lockers checked; and video tapes of the morning bus route were viewed by district administrators and Belleville police officers.
"No weapon of any type was found on the school bus or in student lockers," Obernuefemann said.
The district has requested the assistance of the Belleville Police Department in order to create a joint plan to address future situations like this.
This marked the second time a bullet was found in proximity to school children. On Feb. 28, the same type of bullet was found in a hallway of the school.
Letters to parents about the incident were sent home with school children Thursday afternoon.
